Can the prosecution in the Bundy bonehead cases move the trials back East? If so, they should. For whatever reason, there is a cultural love of murdering federal agents in the West among the local white people. People out there adored the Branch Dumbvidians as they gunned down ATF agents. And in their defense of David Koresh, they just gloss over it, pretend it didn’t happen. Claude Dallas, a man who gunned down two federal agents because he believed he had the right to kill people enforcing laws he didn’t like. Instead of premeditated murder charges, he got voluntary manslaughter. And if it wasn’t for that daycare center, the Murrah Bombing would be considered porno by more than just the Oath Keeper set.
Whereas most rural whites would give other people who killed cops, especially black people, no quarter, white guys who kill government officials in the name of some anti-government crap are basically folk heroes. In other words, if you are a federal agent out there, the local community thinks you’re a drone. A target to be used when someone who thinks they are their own country or that laws are a cafeteria system decides that you deserve to die for mildly annoying them. They want rule by gun.
Bundy has the right to a fair trial. But so does society. And we won’t get that fair trial with a jury pool chock full of Trumpists and Bundy supporters.
